Photography and Digitisation Volunteer


There is currently a vacancy for a Photography and Digitisation Volunteer at the David Livingstone Trust.


The David Livingstone Trust (DLT) has received funding to photograph and digitise books as part of the Blantyre Workers Library Project (BWLP). DLT has 200 original books in its collections from the Blantyre Workers Library which was the library set up for workers of the Blantyre Mill of which David Livingstone was one of them. This project will digitise materials associated with the running of the library such as ledgers and minutes books, and a selection of the books themselves chosen in consultation with local community groups. This role will involve carefully photographing the chosen books and editing the images. It is a vital part of this project the results of which will be on display at the David Livingstone Centre when it reopens next year.

Time commitment: 1 day a week (Friday) until 1 November 2019.


  1. Good photography skills.
  2. Ability to edit images on software.
  3. Can handle repetitive tasks.
  4. A high level of attention to detail.

Support and training provide:

  1. Induction and relevant training will be provided.
  2. On-going support will be available from the project team.


Key activities:

  1. Digitising a selection of Blantyre workers library books
  2. Editing the image using relevant software
