We are delighted to share that the David Livingstone Trust has been awarded the Investing in Volunteers (IiV) certification, a prestigious recognition of our commitment to volunteer management excellence. This achievement demonstrates that we meet the highest standards in six critical areas of volunteer involvement: Vision, Planning, Inclusion, Recruitment, Support, and Valuing and developing Volunteers. (The full standard can be downloaded from www.investinginvolunteers.co.uk).

Our approach to supporting volunteers is rooted in clear communication, thorough planning, and inclusivity. From the moment a volunteer joins us, we ensure they feel valued and supported. This was evident during our IiV assessment, where volunteers shared their positive experiences.

Here’s what some of our volunteers had to say:

“It was very clear when the assessor spoke to the volunteers that they feel supported and listened to by staff at the organization. It is stated at the induction and in the volunteer handbook how they will be supported while volunteering.”

One volunteer highlighted the excellent communication, saying,

“The communication between David Livingstone Trust and the volunteers is excellent. I would rate it 100% positive.”

Another volunteer shared their onboarding experience, explaining,

“I was contacted promptly and invited in for a tour of the museum. I had a chat about which area I would like to work in, nothing was too much trouble.”
“I met with one of the staff members, and they made me feel so welcome and were so appreciative that I wanted to volunteer. Every effort was made to make me feel at ease,”

added another volunteer.

These testimonials reflect our commitment to ensuring volunteers feel fully supported in their roles. We believe volunteers are the backbone of our organization. As one trustee explained,

“Our volunteers are the face of The David Livingstone Trust, and we simply could not operate without them.”

Achieving the IiV certification is not just a milestone for us - it’s a testament to the vibrant volunteer community we are privileged to support. We look forward to continuing this journey of excellence in volunteer engagement!
