Job Title: Part-Time Front of House / Café Assistant
Location: David Livingstone Centre - Café within the museum grounds
Hours: Part-time (approximately 20 hours per week, including weekends as required)
Salary: Living Wage
Reports to: Director of Operations
Role Overview
We are looking for a friendly and reliable Front of House / Café Assistant to join the café team at the David Livingstone Centre.
Set within the beautiful grounds of the Centre, the café welcomes museum visitors, local residents, and groups visiting the parkland. This role focuses on providing excellent customer service, preparing simple café items, and helping create a welcoming and enjoyable experience for visitors.
The successful candidate will enjoy working with people, have a positive attitude, and be comfortable working in a busy visitor environment as part of a small and supportive team.
Key Responsibilities
Customer Service & Front of House
- Welcome visitors to the café and provide friendly, helpful service
- Take customer orders and operate the till
- Serve food and drinks including coffee, tea, and other menu items
- Maintain a welcoming and well-presented café environment
Café Operations
- Support the display and serving of cakes, traybakes, and other baked goods
- Help restock food, drinks, and supplies during the day
- Clear tables and ensure the café area remains clean and tidy
Supporting the Visitor Experience
- Work collaboratively with café and visitor services staff
- Help ensure the café is welcoming and well-presented for museum visitors
- Assist during busy periods, events, children’s parties, and group visits
Person Specification
Essential
- Experience in a customer service, café, hospitality, or retail environment
- Friendly and confident when interacting with visitors
- Ability to work as part of a small team
- Reliable with good time management
- Positive attitude and willingness to help where needed
Desirable
- Experience working in a café or visitor attraction
- Experience using a till or point-of-sale system
- Basic food preparation experience
- Food Hygiene Certificate (Level 2 or willingness to obtain)
