David Livingstone Birthplace Museum welcomes school groups of all ages and abilities. We offer curriculum-linked workshops and tours, suiting classes from early level to fourth level learners.

Our Learning Programme adopts the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) framework and we aim to embed global citizenship education within all of our activities.

Every workshop includes pre-visit and post-visit activities and resources. Alternatively, our Digital Workshops and Handling Boxes offer schools the opportunity to explore our collections without leaving the classroom. Our Learning Team is always on hand to discuss COVID considerations and to adapt our tours and workshops to suit your needs.

If you don’t see anything to suit your class in the options below, get in touch with our team to discuss other options:

We also offer a range of online learning resources and we have several online Learning Resources for you to use.

Travel Subsidy Schools can apply for a travel subsidy of up to 75% funded by Historic Environment Scotland. For more details see HES Travel Subsidy Scheme section.

We have space for your class to enjoy their packed lunch, plus LOADS of outdoor space and an awesome play park! Coach parking is available on site.

We are currently developing anti-racist and outdoor learning resources, please get in touch if you would like to learn more and get involved in the development of these.

"Thank you so much for providing Primary 6 with such an informative workshop surrounding David Livingstone and his life. The activities on offer were well planned and suited the abilities and needs of the children in the class. The presentation was very detailed and there were lots of opportunities for the children to share their own experiences and ideas." - Feedback from a teacher in Blantyre after our “Global Blantyre” session with her P6 class
