The goal of this policy is to provide a framework for continual and measurable improvement in the sustainable development of our social, environmental, and economic performance throughout The Trust.
Be efficient in our direct use of energy, materials, and water, manage waste responsibly and avoid polluting the environment. Be compliant with relevant environmental law and legislation. Set targets, review, and continuously try to improve our performance.
Work with funders, partners, contractors, and suppliers to define more environmentally and socially sustainable ways of working.
Encourage community and social involvement to help build more sustainable communities.
Operate good housekeeping measures to minimise energy, materials and water use within our offices, cafe, and museum Minimise waste through re-using and recycling and by using refurbished and recycled products and materials, where available. Make use of natural ventilation and light where possible and install efficient heating, cooling, and lighting technology when replacement of old equipment becomes due.
Minimise printing requirements by using double sided printing and promoting the use of two pages to one side printing where appropriate. Switching off screens and other office equipment when not in use and operating power management settings on computers to minimise energy consumption when idle.

Travel and transport with minimal greenhouse gas emissions
Use telephone, or videoconferencing to minimise travel requirements.
Public transport will be used as the first choice if appropriate.
Rail travel will be used in preference to air travel where appropriate.
Staff and contractors are aware of the initiatives in place and the relevance to the organisation. We train and motivate our staff to work in a sustainable manner and to play a full part in developing new ideas and initiatives that will benefit The Trust and the environment.
Engage and influence our suppliers by applying minimum environmental standards.
DLT regularly measures and reviews our environmental and sustainable efforts and sets and progresses appropriate objectives and targets for delivering continual improvement.
