The 'Power Play' Youth Engagement Project
The ‘Power Play’ Youth Engagement Project, created by David Livingstone Birthplace, will support local young people and offer opportunities to increase their skills, confidence, employability, and sense of belonging within their communities.
The project will bring together a core group of young people, aged 12 - 25 years old, to develop new projects as part of a youth committee supported by museum staff. They will explore the museum collection to learn more about themes from Livingstone’s heritage, including decolonisation and climate change, as well as wider topics of their choice.
The youth committee will meet regularly at the museum and will decide how to develop their skills. Activities will involve social media takeovers, a community art project, hosting celebration events at the museum, and public speaking opportunities.
Recruitment for the David Livingstone Birthplace Youth Committee will begin in 2022. Please check back soon for details on how to apply.

Funding for ‘Power Play’ has been awarded by the Esmee Fairbairn Collections Fund, with additional support from the National Lottery Heritage Fund.
