Plan Your Visit

We strive to provide a welcoming, engaging, and accessible environment for all our visitors. If you have access requirements do not hesitate to get in touch should the information below give you any cause for concern:

Lift Access - Most areas of the Museum are accessible via ground floor entrances or a platform lift. There is also a stairlift on the first floor which can be operated during visiting hours by staff who will be happy to help.
Wheelchair Access – All areas of the Museum are wheelchair accessible. The Museum is situated in a historic building with some smaller spaces than others.
Borrow a Wheelchair – A wheelchair is available to borrow from the Museum reception during visiting hours on a first-come, first-served basis. Or can be booked in advance by calling 0141 375 3105.
Seating – A variety of seating is available throughout the Museum, some with backs. We also have a small number of portable stools available on request.
Accessible Toilets – Accessible toilets are available on the ground floor of the Museum and the Gift shop. There is a further accessible toilet at the final ‘Legacy Space’ of the Museum also on the ground floor.
Baby changing/Breast feeding - Baby changing facilities are available in the pavilion building next to the gift shop and on the ground floor at the museum entrance. We are under Breastfeeding Family Scotland Scheme.
Dogs (including guide dogs) - It is not necessary for dogs to be kept on a lead at all times across the grounds, however, they must be kept on their leads in designated areas like inside the cafe and gift shop. Only guide dogs are allowed in the museum.
Parking and getting to the museum - Visitors car park is free of charge and is open to the public 24 hours. To get into the museum from the car park, follow the sign to museum reception.
Hearing Loop - Ask the member of staff at the reception on your arrival for further information.

Transportation Option

Blantyre Train Station, Station Road (5 min walk) - regular trains to and from Glasgow city centre. Please check nationalrail.co.uk for times and tickets.
Buses - First Glasgow buses to and from city centre stops top of station Road (buses to Hamilton and Glasgow city - 6 min walk), no.263 and 267 from Glasgow city to Blantyre and no.205 from East Kilbride bus station to Station Road.

Food and Drink

Café - Livingstone’s Café, situated in the Pavilion Building next to the Gift Shop, offers a variety of light snacks, lunches, brunches, cakes and drinks to eat in or takeaway. Indoor and outdoor seating available.

Museum - Please do not bring any food or drink into the Museum except bottled and capped water.

Visiting Safely

Hand Sanitizing - Hand sanitizers are available before you enter the Museum and throughout.

Face Covering - Masks are welcome if you want to wear one. There are some smaller spaces in the Museum so you may want to wear a mask whilst visiting with us. Disposable masks are available at the Museum reception and Gift shop.
